In a locked room, Cleopatra is lying on the sofa, fast asleep. Next to the sofa is a small table beneath an open window. Underneath the table there is a patch of damp carpet and some broken glass. Where is Anthony?

Solution: Anthony the goldfish has just been eaten by Cleopatra the cat. Although her owner had locked the door, Cleopatra had entered through the open window and, in trying to catch Anthony, had knocked his bowl off the table, smashing the glass (whereupon she ate the luckless Anthony...).
